After finishing the initial problem set, we began to take a closer look at Vertex Form and Quadratic Equations. We explored this mainly through more problem sets and a graphing site called Desmos. We used this site to figure out how A, H, and K affect the function. We also learned the meaning of A, H, and K, as shown in the photo. Vertex Form is actually Y=a(x-h)2 + K, and each part has a function in the parabola. The bigger A is, the more closed the parabola is. If the number is negative, the parabola opens downward, if it's positive it opens upward.
H affects the horizontal shift of the parabola, which is how far left or right the parabola actually is. K is the vertical shift, so how far up or down it is depending on the number. Handouts 4-8 heavily focused on what effects a parabola, and finding formulas of parabolas and showing how the variables change parabolas. |
